What is vision?
Many people think perfect vision is 20/20, but really that is only one small aspect of the visual system. In fact, there are more than 20 different visual skills utilized in the classroom, that a vision chart does not detect.
Vision is a dynamic process that guides movement and directs action. It can also be thought of as a process that identifies, interprets, understands and acts upon what is seen.

Since 75-90% of classroom learning comes through the visual system, poor visual skills can affect a child's performance. Why? It takes more energy to use a faulty visual system than it does an efficient one.
You may think that your child does not have a vision problem because they have had a vision screening at school or at the pediatricians office, but remember they are only checking their eyesight and not all of the visual skills that important for reading and learning. What type of examination can determine if my child has a vision problem interfering with learning and reading?
It is recommended that your child have a Visual Skills Evaluation. This evaluation is different than your regular eye examination and is more in-depth. Sometimes a Visual Information Processing Evaluation will be required to determine the depth of the underlying vision problem. This evaluation will be used to determine how your child interprets, identifies, understands, and acts upon the visual information seen. Your Doctor will tell you if that additional testing is needed.

- eye tracking or eye movement abilities (oculomotor abilities)
